Brighton Pub Chess meets every Tuesday at The Sidewinder on St James's Street
Chess Tuesday starts at 6pm in the side garden, where the pub reserves tables. Bring your own set if you can.
Brighton Pub Chess meets every Tuesday evening at The Sidewinder, 65 St James’s Street. The next session is this Tuesday, 20 October, from 6pm to 10pm.
The pub reserves a number of tables for the group in its side garden. The organisers say “it’s obvious where to go”.
The group advertises on Meetup but says the sign-up numbers there don’t match the turnout. Its group page says “we typically see 20-30 people each week”, and the event page says the listing is “aimed at getting new people to come along”.
Complete beginners are welcome, and so are veterans. Bring your own set if you can: the group has a few sets, but they may be in use. No fee is listed for the evening.
The group is also on Facebook and has a club on Chess.com.
As its Meetup page puts it: “Unlike good sportsmanship, drinking isn’t mandatory.”
