Sixteen fire recruits will pull a fire engine 5km along Hove seafront
The East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service recruits start at the Peace Statue at 11am on Tuesday, raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Sixteen recruits from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service will pull a fire engine 5km along Hove Promenade on Tuesday. They set off from the Peace Statue at 11am, and the money goes to The Fire Fighters Charity.
The recruits are on the service’s 43rd Recruits Course. They will follow the Hove Lawns parkrun route. The Peace Statue start was confirmed by the organisers in an email to Brighton Locals.
“Our recruits are at the very start of their firefighting careers, and this challenge is a great example of the dedication and community spirit when becoming a firefighter,” said Oliver Wilson, the service’s Station Manager for Operational Training.
On their fundraising page the recruits say they want to start their careers “by giving something back to the firefighting community”.
The charity supports serving and retired firefighters and other fire personnel. It runs physical rehabilitation, psychological support, recuperation and a confidential helpline.
The fire service is asking people to come and show their support on the day. Donations go through the JustGiving page set up by Ollie Webb.
