Wavertree House care home in Hove is adding eight bedrooms in a £1.3m build
The home on Somerhill Road takes up to 41 residents, and will stay open while Pilbeam Construction builds a new roof and dormers.
Wavertree House, a care home on Somerhill Road in Hove, is getting eight more bedrooms, a large lounge and an assisted bathroom in a £1.3 million expansion. Work began on 5 October and is due to finish in August 2027.
The home takes up to 41 residents across three floors. It provides nursing and personal care for older people with a range of health needs, including residents who have lost their sight. It is run by Wavertree Care Ltd. The Care Quality Commission rates it Good for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The home stays open throughout. Pilbeam Construction, the Sussex contractor doing the work, will put up a temporary roof across the site. It will then remove sections of the existing roof and build a new roof and dormers. The firm will also fit new mechanical and electrical services and new finishes across much of the second floor, and use a gantry to move heavy materials at height.
“We’ll be expanding the existing building while the care home remains open, so careful planning will be essential to minimise disruption to residents and staff,” said Alan Corbett, Pilbeam’s managing director.
Oshi Weissbraun, director of Wavertree Care, said: “The expansion will enable us to welcome more residents while enhancing our facilities and providing additional spaces designed around the needs of the people we care for.”
The architect is Justin Cooper, and Gradient Consultants is the quantity surveyor and principal designer.
