Mat Jones brings his one-man A Christmas Carol to All Saints Hove

Dickens' own reading text, performed by one actor at All Saints Church on The Drive, on Wednesday 23 December.

Mat Jones performs A Christmas Carol on his own at All Saints Church on The Drive on Wednesday 23 December.

He works from the script Dickens used for his own readings. The Vintage Verse page for the show promises “no adaptation, no modern reinterpretation”. Hove is the last date of his December tour, the night after Hitchin Town Hall.

In a preview for Brighton and Hove News, Jones said the story is “at its heart, a ghost story”. He called the church “grand, Gothic, inviting, and at the same time, slightly imposing”. The same piece says the show is now in its ninth year of touring, and that Jones has also made a solo version of The Wind in the Willows.

Tickets are sold through the Vintage Verse website.
