Repeatedly called a genuine 'Brighton institution', this pub near the station is loved for its quiet, no-TV atmosphere (older crowd, proper conversations), reasonably priced pints, and one of the best beer gardens in central Brighton. It also has a long-running, well-regarded Monday quiz, well-kept beer, and - under a newer landlord - a monthly rock night that's becoming popular.

Battle of Trafalgar on Guildford Road (just up from the station). Reasonable prices; one of the best gardens in central B'ton; pub quiz on Mondays. Generally an older clientele than most places in the centre of town as they keep the music quiet and there are no TVs (except for very big sports events -- think World…

…a few very enjoyable lock ins there. There are a few Harvey's pubs which whilst technically not independent are of course locally owned and tend to be classic, traditional boozers given a fair amount of autonomy to be run how the landlord pleases, like the Constant Service, the Battle of Trafalgar and the Mitre. But I'm not so keen on the Nelson. Also, completely other end of town but I've not seen the Watchmakers mentioned yet and that surely deserves a place on any list. Couple of others around the station I'm not sure about. Does anyone know if the Welly and Eddy are tied/owned?…

I think it’s the battle of trafalgar?? The gents…not that I’ve been in them, but you can’t even sit down that end of the pub because it smells so strongly of disinfectant so I’m guessing they are bad. Also, not a pub, but I went to Coalition a few months ago and there was a shit on the floor.
