A bouldering gym in Portslade that Reddit repeatedly credits with helping people make real friends, thanks to LGBTQ+ and beginners' social nights and a welcoming crowd. It's rated as great for kids, couples, and going solo, with decent coffee at the attached café - just expect it to be busy on Friday nights.

What locals say

You should check out Boulder Brighton, it's a great social environment and a really fun, physical sport. I'm really into MMA too (don't actually do it, but follow it) and I feel like in many ways it's quite similar in terms of movement and strength, minus getting kicked in the head.

Sea life center is quite expensive and most kids that age would be a bit underwhelmed - I would give it a miss. Letting them go for a roam around the north laine and the pier is good. Take them over to Beachy Head on the bus too - it’s a nice day out and very instagrammable! Boulder Brighton is a decent way to pass an afternoon if the weather is shit. You can do a boat trip from the marina out past the piers and back - that’s not too expensive and quite fun with good views (https://www.rossboats.co.uk/tours-sea-cruises).

Boulder Brighton has various evenings like LGBT social, women's social etc and you really don't have to have friends before you go - people are super friendly there. Me and my partner would be happy to welcome you there if you ever go! I would stay away from High Sports tbh as it's less welcoming, unless you're…

Take up climbing - Boulder Brighton is a great place to start a hobby and meet people. Best part is you end up getting fit without realising it and your middle aged body feels like it did in your 20s (depending on your physical state in your 20s ofc)
