Ikigai Coffee
Brighton's best matcha and pour-over, owner-roasted pride
9.8/10
Local score · A local favourite
No. 1 of 141 cafés on r/brighton, from 39 locals across 31 threads.
95% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.
Near-unanimous winner in every 'best coffee in Brighton' thread, usually named alongside Komodo and LOAM, with particular love for the matcha (owner Jerry sources it directly from Kyoto) and the cakes, plus rare Cantonese pineapple buns. The one recurring gripe is price — £9.80 for a pour-over stung at least one commenter, though most say the quality justifies it.

Someone recommended LOAM to me recently and it was the worst, most acrid, burnt coffee I’ve ever had. For £4. Made it too far to work to take it back. Avoid that place.
If you go to Ikigai near the train station he charges £9.80 for a pour over, around 6oz of coffee— to be fair it’s a good pour over but yeah,…
