Shabitat

Lewes Road secondhand institution, great furniture value

8.4/10

Local score

No. 6 of 43 shops on r/brighton, from 43 locals across 28 threads.

87% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.

A genuine Brighton institution for cheap secondhand furniture on Lewes Road (Saunders Park), repeatedly the top recommendation for price, choice and its own delivery service. A few say it's overpriced compared to charity shops, and it has a distinctly musty smell, but it's still most locals' first stop.

Go for
Furniture on a budget, they deliver too
Heads up
Some find it overpriced; shop can be a bit musty

Homesense, and if you’re looking for cute furniture defo Shabitat! There’s also a furniture charity shop close to Carlitos Burritos if you’re on a budget. In terms of fairy lights and blankets Primark is a good shout as well, good luck!…

Martlet's is a local charity. They have a few shops and a good warehouse in Hove selling second hand furniture. We furnished most of our place using Shabitat, Martlet's, Facebook marketplace (lots of free stuff on there), Freecycle and Freegal.

Martlets in Portslade is also good. I tend to think that the shops on the London Road and shabitat are pretty overpriced.
