Broadfields Road council homes: early plans on show in Moulsecoomb on 22 October

The council's early proposals are for about 30 to 35 council homes. An online survey runs from 22 October to 18 November.

The council will share early proposals for new council homes on Broadfields Road at a drop-in on Thursday 22 October. It runs from 3pm to 7pm at Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre, BN2 4PB.

The site is 1 to 12 Broadfields Road, BN2 4QF. The council’s first proposal is for about 30 to 35 new council homes, let to households on the Local Housing Register. More than 5,000 households are on the register now, according to the council.

The scheme is part of the council’s New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme, which is delivering affordable council homes across the city on council-owned sites such as Broadfields Road. Labour runs the council, with 31 of its 54 seats. It is separate from the wider Moulsecoomb Housing and Community Hub project.

The project is at an early stage, and the council says no decisions have been made yet. It wants to hear from people before it develops the designs further. The architects and council officers will be at the drop-in to answer questions. Invitation letters have gone to neighbouring properties and stakeholders.

For anyone who can’t make it, the proposals and a survey go on the council’s Your Voice site on the same day, 22 October. The survey stays open until 18 November.

The design team will work on the plans and talk to the community until April 2027, and the council plans to submit a planning application in spring 2027. Neighbours will get a letter with the reference number when it goes in, and anyone can comment on the planning register. If the scheme gets planning approval and funding, building is unlikely to start before spring 2028.

The council says the contractor it appoints will have to show how it will handle deliveries, site access, working hours, noise and dust, and keep neighbours informed.
