Brighton Cat Tour walks two routes on Sunday to meet about 50 cats

One route climbs through Hanover and the other goes round the Laines, with about 25 cats on each. The money raised goes to City Cat Shelter.

The Brighton Cat Tour sets off on Sunday 18 October. Walkers follow one of two routes of about 3km and stop to meet local cats along the way, with the money going to City Cat Shelter. Check-in opens at 9.45am, the first group leaves at 10.15am, and the tour finishes at about 1pm.

Local owners have signed their cats up. The organiser’s Eventbrite listing says walkers should see about 25 cats on each tour, with the “potential of BONUS CATS being spotted”. One route goes through Hanover and has a couple of steep hills. The Laines route is the better choice for wheelchair users. Both start at the same time, so buy a ticket for only one. You find out where to start once you’ve booked.

Visitors can’t bring their own cat food. A cat can only be fed if its owner says so and provides the snacks. A visit may be cut short if a cat gets overwhelmed. There’s no break during the tour, so take food and water. Light drizzle won’t stop it, but heavy rain and strong winds would move it to another Sunday, and anyone who can’t make the new date can ask for a refund.

This is the tour’s second year. Last year about 300 people came and it raised £1,500 for City Cat Shelter, Brighton The Inside reported. That site also said the first two batches of tickets sold out, and 100 more went on sale on Wednesday. Tickets are £10 on Eventbrite.

The listing also has other cat events across the weekend. Today, The Hope & Ruin holds a cat-themed art day from noon to 5pm, with workshops and stalls supporting local artists. In the evening, Dukes at Komedia shows Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Aristocats from 6.30pm. On Sunday, after the tour, The Hope & Ruin holds a cat-themed pub quiz from 5.30pm to 8pm, which costs £6.
