Mark Strong wins the Queen's Park by-election
The Green Party candidate took 1,139 votes on a turnout of 33.36%. Labour's Steve Gladwin was second with 802.
Mark Strong of the Green Party has been elected councillor for Queen’s Park. The by-election was held on Thursday 24 September 2026, after the resignation of Milla Gauge.
The votes for each candidate were:
- Mark Strong, Green Party: 1,139
- Steve Gladwin, Labour Party: 802
- John Shepherd, Reform UK: 160
- Stefan Sönke Speckesser, Conservative and Unionist Party: 97
- Rudi Dikty-Daudiyan, Liberal Democrats: 74
Turnout was 33.36%.
Queen’s Park’s councillors are now Mark Strong and Marina Lademacher, both Green Party, according to the council’s list of councillors by ward.
The council’s 54 seats across 23 wards are made up of 31 Labour Group councillors, 12 Green Group, 5 Conservative Group, 2 Brighton & Hove Independents and 4 independents who do not belong to a political group.
