Murder mystery play returns to Volk's Railway, with supper and a night ride

Touched Theatre's Murder on the Volk's, set at a 1937 wedding reception, runs on the seafront railway from 21 to 24 October.

Murder on the Volk’s, an interactive murder mystery play, is back on the Volk’s Electric Railway from Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 October, starting at 7pm each night. Last year’s run sold out, the council said.

Touched Theatre produces the show, and one of the railway’s own drivers helped write it. It is set in 1937. The audience are guests at a wedding reception, someone is murdered, and over the evening they gather clues. At the end everyone puts in a final accusation, and whoever names the killer wins a prize.

A ticket covers a two-course supper and a night-time ride on one of the heritage trains. The main is beef casserole, or a vegetable and three-bean casserole for vegan and gluten-free guests, with apple tart to follow. You pick your menu when you book. A card-only bar serves beer, wine and soft drinks.

Period dress is encouraged: the organisers suggest gangsters, railway men and wedding fascinators. The council suggests wrapping up warm for the train.

Guests are asked to arrive by 7.15pm, and the evening runs until about 9.30pm. Tickets are £60.29 to £71.13 on Eventbrite. Parts of the performance are not accessible to wheelchair users or people with limited mobility, and Touched Theatre asks anyone with questions to email it at touchedtheatre@googlemail.com.
