Redditors are genuinely split on Bankers: many still rate it among Brighton's best for a proper sit-down fish and chips with tea and bread and butter, but a vocal contingent say quality has slipped badly in recent years, citing greasy, cold chips and soggy batter, plus rising prices compared to rivals like Bardsleys.

What locals say

I really like Wolfies overall, they do chips the way I like them ( a little crispier) and I've never had a bad take away from them. But Bankers really isn't far off but it's a little pricier (or was last time I went) and sitting down to eat is nicer there.

Lost boys chicken for chicken. VIP pizza for pizza, bhindis for indian, bankers for fish and chips, burger kult for burgers.oh and SANGSA for korean fried chicken, and they do banging loaded…

Wolfies do mushy pea fritters, and for that reason alone they get my vote! Seahorse and Bankers in Hove are both good too.

Fillets on Lewes Road. Not fancy but everything is decent and it's cheap. Wolfies and Bankers are both massively overrated. Wolfies in particular do a proper shite curry sauce, like water with bits floating in it, and small portions.
