Repeatedly named Brighton's best for brownies, cookies and cakes, with good gluten-free options and made-to-order vegan cakes (including a vegan Victoria sponge). It's moved around over the years, most recently from Church Street/Hove to a church hall near Preston Park, and one Redditor notes it 'isn't the cheapest'.
- Go for
- Custom cakes, vegan treats, and gluten-free bakes
- Heads up
- Not cheap; original Church St and Hove branches closed
What locals say
St. Augustine's up on Florence Rd is doing a market on the 13th, it'll be small but they have Cielo's Cakery doing food and drinks, really really good sweet treats. They also usually set up a bar for events and have a lot of nice art on display, plus the building is gorgeous.
…it was amazing - had a waffle and a sundae and they traveled well. Portion sizes are good. In comparison I've also tried Kaspa's and was disappointed. Tried Treatz too and they were pretty good but not a patch on JoJo's. Whilst we're on the subject, if you have a sweet tooth, Cielo Cakery is AMAZING! They do cookie pie slices and chocolate scotch eggs. Hard recommend. Hope that helps!
Cielo Cakery on Church Street has amazing brownies!! We’ve lots of nice bakeries too all over town, Flour Pot , bond st coffee, LOAM all good. Cloud 9 is nice for cakes. Good happy hour cocktails at Twisted Lemon (not Saturdays) until 7pm and also Mrs Fitzherberts to cocktail deals. Presuming Ed’s is really fun…
Another vote for Cielo! They actually made our wedding cake! Their vegan and gluten free stuff is completely undistinguishable from their 'normal' stuff too, so don't be put off if they have a flavour you want but it's GF.
