Repeatedly named Brighton's best cake stop - cupcakes, brownies and a kids' corner near St Peter's church - with staff described as helpful and happy to take special requests. One caveat: their gluten-free items are actually only 'gluten friendly', not safe for coeliacs.

Cielo Cakery on Church Street has amazing brownies!! We’ve lots of nice bakeries too all over town, Flour Pot , bond st coffee, LOAM all good. Cloud 9 is nice for cakes. Good happy hour cocktails at Twisted Lemon (not Saturdays) until 7pm and also Mrs Fitzherberts to cocktail deals. Presuming Ed’s is really fun and have good happy hour…
Cloud 9 make really really great cakes. They have lots of different types, not sure they do a Guinness cake specifically but worth asking them. They make them all at their place on London Road so may be able to? They've always been really helpful and happy to help!
Cloud 9 isn't totally gluten free, but they usually have a bunch of "glutenwise" options which are pretty good in my experience. (Caveat: am not gf myself, but I've sometimes chosen that option if it looks good. I had a raspberry blondie there recently that was amazing.)
Knoops or Be Chocolat both do fancy hot chocolate if you’re after that specifically. Otherwise, head through North Laine after you leave the station. Multiple cafes where you can find nice lunch and/or treat foods (eg Cloud 9 is incredible for cake).
