Popular for hiring the upstairs room (around £200) for groups of 30-40 with its own bar, and praised for unbeatable Thai food and a kind barman. Several Redditors complain it's overpriced for a pint (up to £8), though many agree it's improved a lot since a refurb moved it on from a rougher, drug-and-violence-prone past.

What locals say
Upstairs at the hare and hounds. Room with its own bar, plug in your own music. Has seperate toilets too - can decorate it before if you want. £200, my partner did it in April and it was really fun!
Today I was 30p short of a round at the Hare & Hounds on Ldn rd. The barman said don’t worry about it and got the change out of his own wallet to pay the difference. I was shocked in the best way. Props to that guy!
…cheap tasty japanese, VIP pizza is great as well. others will have a better idea for more "posher" dining, but these can only be found in brighton. as for pubs/bars i enjoy mash tun, dead wax social, good companions, the inn, shuffle bar, hobgoblin, worlds end, the joker and hare and hounds. as for night life maybe green door or Concorde 2. hope some of this helps, this is just stuff that i enjoy (apart from the pier/pavilion etc as i have lived in brighton for my whole life)
The aolution is to not drink in the Hare and Hounds. Plenty of other places around, and there are places in Brighton that don't charge silly money for a drink (that aren't spoons).
