Known to locals as the old Thomas Kemp, this St Georges Road pub is rated for its Sunday roast, nachos and toasted sandwiches, plus a shaded garden good for laptop work with stable WiFi. It's a standard Laine Brew Co pub where the food gets more praise than the beer, and it runs a Tuesday quiz night.

…Don't bother with the Bristol, that's rubbish. But the next nearest two, the Saint George and the Barley Mow are much more like it. Plus once you've got as far as the Mow which is in the heart of Kemptown village, you've also got the Well (an excellent bar in a bottle shop), the Kemp (standard Laine Brew Co pub but the food is good even if the beer isn't) and the Golden Cannon (bit spit and sawdust but always has live sport on). Whitehawk being so close to Kemptown makes it infinitely superior to Moulsecoomb/Bevendean which are a pain to get to and are nowhere near the sea. Whitehawk…

…certainly the biggest Sunday roast in Brighton Daddy Long Legs - fantastic small plates Bison Bar, North Laine - more small plates. Also excellent The Geese - delightful sausage and mash menu with a great selection of sausages, flavoured mashes and accompanying gravies The Thomas Kemp - not the most exciting pub in the world but their nachos are some of the best in town Hop Poles - thoroughly decent fish and chips here, amongst other classics Saint James Tavern - recently reopened with a new Lebanese menu. Delicious big meaty…

57year old here dating a 60year old. We just celebrated our 3 year anniversary having met on Hinge. Our first meet was at the Thomas Kemp in Kemptown as it was super convenient to us as we are both near BC too. I will always remember it fondly as being the start of our relationship. Not convenient for your needs though! The Basketmakers is a lovely pub with a cosy vibe. Good luck on your date!

My partner and I have been going to The Kemp to do creative writing. Cute little garden with a shaded bit (so you’ll be able to see the screen) and reasonably stable WiFi. RedRoaster on St James street has a very green shaded backyard and WiFi, at least I’ve seen students working there.
