100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.

Locals rate this Kemptown bottle-shop-bar for natural wine, good beer and friendly staff who'll happily chat, and you can bring in pizza from Pizzaface next door. It's rated a good, low-key date spot and turns up in several independent-pub lists - note some "Well" mentions on the sub refer to a separate branch in Hove near Palmeira Square.

What locals say

…friendly local one craves on a chilly evening. Don't bother with the Bristol, that's rubbish. But the next nearest two, the Saint George and the Barley Mow are much more like it. Plus once you've got as far as the Mow which is in the heart of Kemptown village, you've also got the Well (an excellent bar in a bottle shop), the Kemp (standard Laine Brew Co pub but the food is good even if the beer isn't) and the Golden Cannon (bit spit and sawdust but always has live sport on). Whitehawk being so close to Kemptown makes it infinitely superior to Moulsecoomb/Bevendean which are a pain to get…

Solo dining is one of lifes great treats, my recommendation would be: 1. Wine and Small plates: Plateau or/and The Well...(and Vine Street Tap) 2. Cocktail Bar: Voya, also does small plates 3. OnAir 1BTN bar (hifi bar, small plates, natural win) 4. Dinner: Bincho...book and sit at the bar with a book 5 people watching with a pint: The Albert, Great Easter, Evening Star,…

Hand in Hand is up there comfortably with the best pubs in Brighton. The Well and Rock Inn are decent places to drink too as is, at weekends, the Loud Shirt taproom going towards Whitehawk. Kemptown Bookshop is a great independent bookshop.

…Arms, The Quadrant, The Regency Tavern, heck even Royal Oak for some 313 pizza (it's £5 for their margarita on Sundays). Or bar crawl it around Hanover - must pubs up there are decent and very Brighton. Flea marketing in Kempton for spend time poking about. Go drink wine at the Well whilst you're there. Hand in Hand, Barley Mow, The Kemp.
