A plant-based restaurant with a Japanese-leaning menu, very frequently recommended alongside Botanique and Bonsai Plant Kitchen as one of Brighton's best vegan options, and praised even by meat-eaters. Most reviews are enthusiastic about the food and vibe, though one commenter says to skip the sushi specifically and another called it 'awful' - so it's not universally loved.

- A few say skip the sushi or it's inconsistent

Botanique is the best I've been to by a mile, one of the best restaurants I've been to in Brighton vegan or otherwise. Would also recommend Kusaki but don't bother with the sushi, and The Roundhill if you want something a bit more casual.
Kusaki is pretty new, but has an excellent vibe and delicious plant-based sushi, so would tick your vegan boxes - it's just in a part of town that's currently a bit unloved. Bincho Yakitori is much more like an authentic izekaya and definitely not vegan - but I would suspect you're right about their sake selection…
The people behind Food for Friends have just opened a new restaurant called Kusaki, it's Japanese / Asian tapas style food, and it's incredible, possibly even better then FFF. It's at the top of London road just below Vantage…
Totally agree! I’ve had both and do not understand the appeal of Kusaki. Small portions, over priced and they’re not even interesting or particularly tasty. Meanwhile Bonsai is amazing, not cheap but not over-prices and always delicious and exciting.
