Regulars repeatedly rate this Preston Road spot (under the viaduct) as Brighton's best pizza, praising the authentic Italian pizzas and the calzone, with a meal for two around £20. It's fiercely traditional - staff can refuse to alter dishes that aren't 'proper' Italian - and it gets booked out, so call ahead and check they're not on their occasional holiday closures.

- A cheap date-night pizza with authentic attitude
- Heads up
- Often fully booked; can refuse to alter dishes
What locals say
Totally recommend Pizza 500 by Preston park. My boyfriend took me there on our first date 5 years ago and it’s still our go-to now. They make authentic Italian pizzas in a garage and you can eat well for £20 for two people (Their 4 cheese is the best!!) Make sure to call because they often fully booked. Hope your date goes well!!
I mean, it’s very much personal taste but I love the pizzas from Stefano’s van outside St. Peter’s on Portland Road. Pizza 500 is always a good bet too.
Cannot take this seriously if you think Franco manca does the best pizza in Brighton. It's just another bland chain like pizza express. Best pizza in Brighton is either VIP, PizzaMe, or Pizza 500.
…- Boella Co which is a van rather than a shop. Usually at the Preston park market on a Sunday and I thjnk they are up near the Amex offices during the week. Have had a few times and it’s been awesome for the money every time. I’m surprised to see so much love for Pizza 500 unless something drastic has changed in the last 4 years. I went quite a few times pre and during Covid but after the last time waiting over 2 hours for two pizzas (sat in) I’ve never bothered going back. It was always either awesome or rubbish anyway, but the owners attitude and customer service skills…
