The Level is Brighton's other big park, though on r/brighton it's almost entirely known for the running 'ket at the Level' joke, repeated in nearly every thread that mentions it, reportedly rooted in real history of van-dwellers and hippies being moved off the site. Underneath the joke, locals say it's a genuinely nice family-friendly hangout especially near Hanover, but several warn it isn't particularly safe to walk through after dark.

As people have said The Level is the biggest and probably the best. But if you want to get away from the massive crowds, screaming parents and scooter kids then the Hollingdean skatepark is pretty decent imo and a lot nicer to chill out at.
I grew up round the level and still live near by. I'd say if you're happy for your 13 year old to go into town by themselves or go to the park by themselves then the level is not really that different. 99% of the people there are good people and skaters have a good habit of looking out for each other especially the younger ones.…
From my experience, I'm also not from the UK: Cute small shops are mostly around the North Laine, check out the library around there too, it's free. I lived on the seafront for many years (from about 2008), and honestly I’m no more scared now than I was then. Walking anywhere - but especially places like the seafront and the Level - are not particularly safe after dark for women. There’s always been addicts, alcoholics, boozed up lads and the rest looking for trouble and so there has always been a need for some judicious common sense. It’s really sad that those spidey senses have to be hardwired into women.
