Kemptown's go-to for camp, indulgent afternoon tea

A Kemptown institution loved for its afternoon tea (cake stacks, sandwiches, good gin) and a brunch/breakfast menu Redditors rave about — a roughly £10 full English with a vegan option, plus popular pancakes. Also praised for vegan cakes and scotch eggs, an attentive owner and staff, and being dog-friendly; the main caveat raised is that it's not the cheapest.

Go for
Afternoon tea and a proper Kemptown brunch
Heads up
Not the cheapest option for afternoon tea

What locals say

My partner and I had a visit to Brighton for the last week (plan on moving next year) We had our first days breakfast at Metrodeco (st James Street). It's about £10 a meal and it's seriously fantastic. I didn't know an English breakfast could be that could, and they have a vegan one too if you need. It was so good we went back on day 2 for pancakes, which were also really good. They also do tea with loose leaves and god it was some…

No probs, now you know! Anyway if you want a fancy one in suitable surroundings then the Grand or Metropole hotels are the best choice, but if you want more affordable (and maybe nicer) then Metrodeco, the Leman Tea Shop or the Little Tea shop in the Lanes are all good. Or for a quirky and delicious veggie one, Terre a Terre’s is interesting - but you might want to go traditional for your first.

The Laughing Dog at the marina is the perfect dog friendly cafe with a gallery as an added bonus. Nowhere Man for great pancakes with your dog. Metrodeco in Kemptown is dog friendly. White Cliffs Cafe in saltdean for a coffee and a sea view. On the seafront in Brighton Lucky Beach for brilliant burgers with your puppy. Any and all pubs in the bar area. Source : I have an extremely large dog and like coffee.
