100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.
A no-frills, family-run Malaysian spot on West Street that Redditors repeatedly name the best noodle soup in town, especially the laksa - a big, filling bowl for around a tenner. It's cash only and quick to turn tables, though a couple of people note the menu's too narrow for a group banquet. It has a related sister restaurant, Noodles Street.

- A cheap, authentic laksa lunch

What locals say
I replied to a comment saying this, but thank you everyone who said Noodles Soup!! I grew up in that restaurant as my family owns it and helped out when I could, they really do care about authentic food. We are all from Malaysia and as a small business we appreciate every single person who comes in to eat. (Sorry about the cash only).
…place i.e. coronation chicken, ham and salad roll etc. All made fresh, as you want it, and decently priced We Love Falafel - Syndey Street. Just huge and tasty. The vegan pizza one is the tits. Tucked Away - Trafalgar Street. Toasties, paninis, jacket potatoes. Bosh. Noodles Soup/ Noodle Town - not just for lunch but honestly or £10 it is a big ol' bowl of filling and happy noods. Loads of variety - the laksa slaps.
Noodles Soup, West Street. Yes, West Street. Cash only, No website, bright red outside with photo menus. Bloodly lovely.
…have a good set meal there (the salmon donburi is very good). Seconding Earls for Bahn Mi - not authentic but it slaps and it's a big portion. If you're seeking comfort in noodles and aren't took fussed: Milk No Sugar does a decent pho for the price and there's always Noodles Soup/ Noodle Time for their laksa noods.
