Brighton's big park by the station of the same name, popular for the Saturday and Christmas Day parkruns which locals say have a great community atmosphere, plus cricket, a playpark, cafes and the Rockery/rock gardens which one local called a hidden gem. It also hosts events like the Brighton Chilli Festival and a Thai festival. A couple of women mention feeling unsafe walking alone near the park or along London Road after dark.

How about parkrun? There’s on at Preston Park on Christmas Day. You can run or walk it and if you don’t fancy either of those you can volunteer. There’ll be lots of friendly people and a great community atmosphere. There were well over 1000 people there on Christmas Day last year!

Then the Lanes have some restaurants and a few things, while North St and Western Rd have more established brands The Level is a nice hangout place, as is Preston Park. Around the Level you'll find the London Lane shops have everything, Aldi is usually ok, Sainsbury's nice but more expensive, Poundland has some gems and is generally cheap, there's an Asiamart and a few Asian shops there (I don't know how well they stock your home ingredients, but from experience,…
…which is great), although I’ve had situations occur in the daytime too. For example, a few years ago, I was walking alone at 6pm in summer (light outside) and a man tried to get me in his car. I was only two minutes from my house, on what I thought was a ‘safe’ road near Preston Park, so that situation really ratted me. The next year someone was attempt-kidnapped in Hove. I’m sure we all remember that. Luckily they managed to escape. Interestingly, it seems that a lot of attacks on women happen in the early hours of the morning rather than evening. It’s hard being a woman because…
