The Quadrant

Calm clock-tower boozer with comedy nights upstairs

5.5/10

Local score

No. 82 of 212 pubs & bars on r/brighton, from 27 locals across 26 threads.

89% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.

Locals rate this calm, central pub near the clock tower for its beer range, Guinness Zero and low/no-alcohol options, and Monday comedy nights. It's popular precisely because it's unlikely to attract hen or stag parties, though wheelchair access to the toilets is a genuine sore point. No food is served on-site.

Go for
A quiet pint away from the stag dos
Heads up
Poor wheelchair access, especially to the toilets

What locals say

Hiya, Half-English, half-Irish Brighton native here :) Great music scene, very varied, not sure about punk-specific bars but I'd be surprised if there were none. Big fan of Chalk, Concorde 2, Hope and Ruin, The Quadrant, those sorts of places. There are a few Irish bars that do live music but they're not run by Irish people these days as far as I can tell. Digital sector here is strong, a big employer would be American Express but that's only if you're interested in finance. London commuting is doable if you live…

I work at the Quadrant at the moment and we have a few low alcohol/alcohol free beers available if you like that kinda thing. And I certainly won't judge you for your drink choices! Come party with us!

…Brighton Music Hall, Fortune of War, and Lucky Beach Cafe are all right on the seafront (assuming you can get a seat) and not far from the bottom of the road coming down from the station. If you end up delayed and want somewhere closer to the station (without a sea view), The Quadrant, The Hope and Ruin, and The Evening Star are all nice calm boozers. Good luck out there!

…Pompoko for cheap Japanese food. This is controversial because other people have other favourites. Pompoko was cash only the last time I was there. A non-controversial favourite is Planet India. It’s gorgeous plant-based food. Most pubs in Brighton are friendly. I like The Quadrant, the Prince Albert and the Prince George; they’re central but unlikely to have hen or stag parties in them.
