Portslade local: cheap pints, heated garden booths

5.1/10

Local score

No. 94 of 212 pubs & bars on r/brighton, from 7 locals across 8 threads.

100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2025.

Praised as a cheap, decent local in Portslade, with Guinness going for under £5 and a quiet heated beer garden featuring enclosed, shed-like train-carriage booths. The Sunday roast also gets a shout, with good veggie and vegan options.

…pub. It's quite nice to sit in one of the booths outside there (they have heaters). Alternatively, you could go a bit out to Hove/Portslade for quieter pubs. For privacy/quiet, you might like the outdoor train booths (with heating and more enclosed like a shed almost) at The Railway Inn next to Portslade Station. I haven't been in their beer garden for a few years but I'd imagine/hope they were still there.

Portslade maybe? I’m not sure how much rent is there but it should be cheaper than Brighton or Hove, and it’s got a railway station if you ever can’t ride your bike. On Boundary Road there’s at least one decent pub (the Railway Inn)and some coffee shops too - it’s getting a bit more Brighton-y as people are priced out of the centre. Maybe Patcham - that’s a lot quieter, but should be cheaper.

The Southern Belle has a nice rear area you can hire with it's own bar. Staff are lovely. The Railway Inn in Portslade has a private space with it's own bar called the Platform and it's right by the train station. We used that for an all day event with family. Has a projector and it's own sound The Stoneham has its own private bar, pretty small although they were hard to deal with and get a refund from…

Oof don't go to the Victoria in Portslade, go to the Railway Inn (also correct side of the Trainline). Although no pub between the rail crossing and Battle of Trafalgar for Portslade Town Hall…
