The Brunswick's free Tuesday jazz jam in Hove, running since 2010
Paul Richards hosts the weekly jam at 8pm in the pub's main venue. General admission is free, and a £3 early ticket guarantees a table.
Every Tuesday at 8pm, jazz musicians gather in the main venue at The Brunswick on Holland Road in Hove for a free jam. The pub bills it as “Brighton’s longest running, free entry Jazz Jam”.
Guitarist Paul Richards started the night in July 2010 and still hosts it. On his website he describes a rotating house band and an acoustic house piano, mic’d up on stage. The players range from singers doing their own versions of classic songs to bebop musicians who like their tunes fast. A crowd comes each week to see which mix of musicians ends up on stage.
The jam is popular enough that the pub now sells early admission at £3 a head, which guarantees a table. Those tickets are only valid between 7.15pm and 7.45pm, while the house band sets up, and come with 20% off the kitchen menu. General admission from 8pm is free.
The next jam is on Tuesday 13 October. The Brunswick Jazz Jam group on Facebook posts updates, photos and videos.
