Stephen Mangan brings Zeller's comedy The Truth to Theatre Royal Brighton

The Truth, Florian Zeller’s comedy about an affair and the lies around it, will start its UK tour at Theatre Royal Brighton next October. Stephen Mangan plays Michel, with Sarah Hadland as Alice and Janie Dee as Laurence. The Argus³ reported the Brighton run.

The run is Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 October 2027. Some announcements gave the start as 18 October, but the theatre’s booking page lists no performance on the Monday and calls the Tuesday opening night.

Michel is having an affair with his best friend’s wife and has persuaded himself that honesty is overrated. Christopher Hampton translated the play from Zeller’s French, and Lindsay Posner directs. It runs 1 hour 25 minutes with no interval.

The production sold out at the Apollo Theatre in London earlier this year. “The Truth was a sell-out sensation over its run at the Apollo Theatre,” Simon Friend, producer at Melting Pot, told the Argus. It goes back to the West End first, for 12 weeks at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 29 July 2027, where Ardal O’Hanlon also returns, as Paul. The Brighton listing names Mangan, Hadland and Dee, and the Argus says further casting is to be announced.

Brighton is the first of four tour stops, followed by the Lowry in Salford, the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham and Theatre Royal Glasgow.

ATG’s booking calendar marks all eight Brighton performances “Good availability”. Evening shows are at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm matinees on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Seats start at £15 from Tuesday to Thursday and £25 on Friday and Saturday, though ATG says starting prices may change with demand.
