A quirky Hove restaurant (with an attached bar) doing an Indonesian/Malaysian rijsttafel-style all-you-can-eat buffet, popular for weddings, big groups and karaoke nights, generally seen as reasonably priced (around £20pp) with very obliging owners. Most Redditors love it, though a couple report dire customer service and a deafeningly loud hen do in the adjoining bar, and one diner felt the 'rijsttafel' was really just a standard buffet.

What locals say

5k is definitely possible. Just don't go overboard on things that don't really add much, like flowers or an overly expensive cake. I can recommend The Bali Brasserie. It's an awesome little venue that serves a wonderful Indonesian buffet for around £20 per head (although, of course, you can spend as much as you want) in a private dining room, and it has an awesome bar attached. If you like Indonesian / Malaysian, try Bali Brasserie in Hove; I think they’ve resumed their rijstaffel buffet. Coal Shed for steaks, but they book up pretty quickly. For Mexican, check out Tlaloc, Halisco and Casa Azul - it’s great to have more authentic Mex food on offer. For a cafe, Komedia. And for pizza delivery, try Passione Napoletana in Hove.

Bali Brasserie - A funky 70's type bar, with various food/buffet options (for a very reasonable price), and the owners are incredibly nice people who think along without gouging for every penny. Couldn't recommend them more.

When I first moved to Brighton I was excited about Bali Brasserie. I was disappointed and underwhelmed. They basically call their buffet a Rijstaffel. That's not Rijstaffel it's an all you can eat buffet.
