Regularly named a top spot for proper Thai food thanks to Namo, the kitchen inside (pad kra pao and khao soi both singled out, tables bookable, plus a cheaper takeaway option), and locals fondly remember its old punk-friendly saloon bar. As a pub it fares worse - repeatedly flagged as one of the priciest pints in Brighton, and a few call it a "dreary chain pub with terrible beer."

What locals say
The Eagle. It used to be a completely different layout. Old man's bar on one side, saloon bar the other. All the punks used to hang out in the saloon bar on a Saturday. I was 14 and thought I was so cool being in there with them!
Giggling squid is a chain you can get anywhere. If you want a local Thai place try Namo. They have a restaurant on Ship Street so right by Giggling Squid, they also serve a more budget friendly option out of The Eagle. What are you looking for bar wise?
I commented this on another post recently, but as someone that lived in Thailand for 6 years, I think Unithai in Hove is the best Thai in town, followed by Chilli (next door to Unithai and some of the same staff), then Suriyas in Kemptown The pad kra pao moo at Namo Eat at the Eagle is also very authentic!
The Eagle, Everytime I go in I swear it’s 20p a pint more. I’d wager one of the most expensive pints in Brighton (excluding craft places)
