A Hanover favourite for Sunday roasts and its sausage-and-mash menu, with 'best gravy ever' a recurring line, plus solid vegetarian and vegan options. It's small and gets busy fast so regulars say to book ahead, and there's a steep hill up Southover Street to reach it, but almost nobody has a bad word to say about the food.

If you're on Facebook there's a Brighton Sunday Roast Club which has plenty of reviews with pictures. Otherwise, my personal favs are Signalman, Southern Belle and Shakespeare's Head. The Geese is also amazing, best gravy ever.

Wasn't impressed with food from The Geese when used to go there when they used to do the pub quiz, before they shut and got taken over by new people. Is it decent now? It was seriously crap before, and haven't been there since the new people took it on, partly due to covid, partly due to being too lazy to walk up there from Hove, and partly due to…
