Long-standing family-run spot on the Hove seafront, beloved for its gelato and cannoli (people have been going since the 70s), and now also a fish restaurant with well-rated pasta and seafood like the marinara. Some regulars feel it's traded on its ice-cream fame and become an overpriced Italian/fish place rather than staying a simple ice-cream parlour.

Marrocco's in Hove does the best ice cream. The sea gets deep very quickly at high tide. Don't eat any food on or immediately by the pier, the gulls will go for you. Saw a guy lose his tub of cockles only this morning. If you prefer the beach a little quieter, avoid the area between the two piers. Go out to Hove,…

…for the view. Actually paying for anything or going in.. meh. Come off the pier and wander along the seafront west along the bottom level towards the i360. If you have time to continue at this point, wander towards the king Alfred leisure centre and there’s a place called Marroccos which will do you a banging locally made gelato. Should be a good day that! If you have time the pavilion is pretty worth going into. Evening wise I’d recommend sticking to the North Laine area and avoiding west street and the area near the station like the plague. It’ll be a human zoo. Do not go to…

Marroccos is worth a visit. There is also a little place on a side road between st. James street and the seafront but I can’t remember what it’s called. The you have Al Duomo and Al Forno. Finally there are a few good ones on church road hove like otello and cincin.

I put forward Marrocco's. Interpreting "overrated" as a place that built a barely deserved fame that made the business think too highly of itself, I think Marrocco's fits the bill. Started as an OK, if overpriced, ice-cream place. On the back of that fame, it's now a fish restaurant that serves OK italian dishes at Michelin-star…
