100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.
Redditors repeatedly name Plateau among Brighton's best, describing it as an organic wine bar with diverse small plates rather than a traditional French restaurant. Regulars say the food is consistently good quality and very reasonably priced, but it's hard to get a table without booking ahead.

What locals say
Plateau or Fourth & Church for small plates. Mange Tout for brunch/lunch. 64 degrees for fairly expensive tasting menu. Bincho Yakitori for amazing grilled Japanese food. Hard to get a table so book in advance. Planet India for insanely good curry.
Loin and Lobster is a multi floored dimly lit backstreet tavern with its own roof terrace. Would recommend! Burnt orange is OK but honestly not the greatest anymore now the hype is over. The best food is at Plateau which is an organic wine bar with small plate food- super good quality and very reasonably priced.
Bincho, palmito, plateau. Unlikely to get a table this late in the day unfortunately. But the real answer here is Furna - possibly the best food I’ve ever eaten, we’ll worth the money!
Petit Pois, Plateau, Blossom, Bonsai (maybe less romantic than the others but the food is incredible and still has a great atmosphere)
