100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.

A small Korean restaurant on Church Street (near Brighthelm) that comes up again and again as the go-to for bibimbap - beef, pork, veg or vegan, with a fried egg, for under a tenner - plus excellent own-made kimchi and Korean groceries to take home. Consistently recommended as a cheap, quick, filling lunch, though it doesn't do ramen.

What locals say

Kantenya is excellent, though leans more towards Japanese food (also Korean bits). Time for Kimchi is Korean specific and small, but very good kimchi. Asiamart is a good all rounder, and is priced better than YumYum I think, which markup pretty heavily.

Also on Church St, bit further up, is Time for Kimchi which does an amazing bibimbap (beef/pork/veg/vegan) with fried egg (not in the vegan obvs) for under a tenner (eat in or takeaway), great quick and filling lunch option especially for the colder weather. Worth trying if you haven’t already!
