100% would send a mate. Still recommended in 2026.
A newly opened Meeting House Lane restaurant that's quickly become a favourite, with reviewers calling it authentic, tasty vegan Chinese food and better value than nearby Bonsai Plant Kitchen. It offers refillable rice with your dishes; the only real gripe is servers being a bit pushy about upselling extras.
- Go for
- Vegan Chinese, even if you doubt tofu
- Heads up
- Servers can push extra dishes a bit hard
What locals say
Bonsai Plant Kitchen is just incredible. Japanese food grilled over coals. The oysters mushroom skewers are the best thing I've ever eaten. Tofu Vegan is brand new and incredibly tasty authentic Chinese food. Terre a Terre is a big one but I'd swerve it. The food feels very 90s vegetarian and was really quite bland and uninspiring.
Tofu Vegan is good for proper Chinese food but I honestly, no joke use www.brightonchinesetakeaway.co.uk Prawn and chicken balls, decent tofu dishes and salt and chilli chips. Proper Big John…
I went to Tofu Vegan on Friday for my friend's birthday it was amazing. Everything was really tasty. You can get refillable rice and have a few dishes to go with it. I'll be going back soon. Manjus is also a favourite. It's small and cosy. The food is great.
I would have to say Tofu. I went to Bonsai for my birthday 2 months ago and was very disappointed. Extremely small portions and expensive prices. I wasn’t that impressed by their food either. I have been to Tofu Vegan several times and their food has always been great and very reasonable for the price. Only annoying thing is the servers can be a bit too in your face when it comes to encouraging certain items like dessert.
