Cheap Thai food, jazz and poker, divisive reputation

5.1/10

Local score

No. 92 of 212 pubs & bars on r/brighton, from 31 locals across 36 threads.

94% would send a mate.

A Western Road pub known for cheap Thai food, a Thursday poker night and a Wednesday jazz speakeasy upstairs, with a room often hired out for parties. Reviews are split — some call it a friendly, chatty local with bargain Guinness (£14 for two pints), while a thread literally titled 'The Wick Inn' calls it an awful pub.

What locals say

Speakeasy poker night at The Wick Inn in Hove. https://m.facebook.com/groups/174795369637429/ Great host and great crown. Very friendly game. Normally it’s a tournament format with a £3-4 buy in. There’s a league too.

Temple Bar, Royal Sovereign, Wick Inn and Bee's Mouth are usually open until midnight on weekdays. does scran. The first 3 do food (Wick and Sov do thai). Bee's Mouth has live jazz on a Monday eve which is pretty good, and you might spot Dylan Moran there.

The Royal Sovereign on Preston Street, The Wick Inn near Palmeira Square and The Albert below Brighton Station are all friendly pubs where you can strike up a conversation with other locals.

The first pic & the fried "egg" were both from the vegan market they do on the first Saturday of the month at the open market 😁 Rest of the places: Garden Cafe, Foodilic, Nowhere Man, No Catch, The Wick Inn, Brighton Beach Cafe, Bagelman, Crosstown, Caffe Bar Italia, Little Jack Fullers, Dominos, Infinity Foods, The Joker Sadly a few of the places shown have shut down since the photo…
