A Western Road pub best known for regular live jazz and saxophone nights, recommended for informal dates and weeknight dancing with an older crowd. Long-time fans love the atmosphere, but some say prices climb when there's live music and it's 'always rammed'. It's also been at the centre of a licensing review after noise complaints from newer residents nearby.
- Go for
- An easy, informal jazz night out
- Heads up
- Pricier on live-music nights; faced a noisy licensing review

…old farts we like: - fossicking for junk at Snoopers Paradise (Kensington St), and at the North Laine Bazaar (Upper Gardner St- underground! ) - Drag comedy nights at the Ironworks venue - Burgers + standup comedy at the Komedia, Gardner St. - live fun funky jazz at The Paris House, Western Rd - Glasses of wine in a mini-greenhouse pod at the Coppa Club, North Lanes (pre book the pod). - Messing about with video games at the Loading Bar on the seafront - tribute bands at Concorde 2 (up soon: ‘UK Queen’) - if it’s not raining, or dark, find the park space called The Level,…
I am pretty sympathetic either way. What I would desperately like to see is a resolution that suits everyone. The center of Brighton is vibrant because it has places like the The Paris House AND people living there. So anything towards a peaceful co-existence is a plus from me.
The Paris House on Western Rd has a lot of live jazz and jazz-ish nights. It usually feels crowded, slightly chaotic and friendly. Cigars: I think the Hotel du Vin has a thermidor for cigars, and a smoking terrace outside. Chilly!
Paris House is always stupidly expensive. They run a remarkable business considering it's always rammed with the prices they charge.
