Repatriation and shared heritage: Brighton and Botswana
A talk, a new short film and a panel on the 45 objects Brighton & Hove Museums returned to the Khama III Memorial Museum in Botswana in May.
In May 2026, Brighton & Hove Museums sent 45 objects back to the Khama III Memorial Museum in Botswana. This afternoon session in the Museum Lab tells the story of that return, with a talk and the premiere of a new short film about the project.
A panel follows on what shared heritage and repatriation can do for communities. On it are Portia Tremlett, the museums’ curator of world cultures; JoAnn McGregor, professor of human geography at the University of Sussex; and Bert Williams MBE and Suchi Chatterjee of Brighton & Hove Black History.
It runs from 3 to 4.30pm and is included with museum admission. If you buy admission online, pick the right date and time.
