Better Brighton & Hove Fund

Street trees and beach benches among first developer levy projects

Residents put forward the ideas and ward councillors chose them. The decision comes into force on 13 October unless it is called in.

The first projects from the Better Brighton & Hove Fund have been approved for five wards. The Labour-run council’s cabinet member for finance and city regeneration agreed to the projects recommended by ward councillors in Round Hill, Rottingdean & West Saltdean, Westbourne & Poets’ Corner, Woodingdean and Wish. The decision was published on 5 October.

The money comes from the neighbourhood part of the Community Infrastructure Levy, which developers pay on some new homes, shops and student accommodation. It is…

A report on Black Rock's future goes to cabinet on 15 October

Brighton & Hove City Council’s cabinet is due to consider a report on the future of Black Rock, the empty former swimming pool site just west of Brighton Marina, at its meeting on Thursday 15 October.

The report, listed in the council’s forward plan, asks the cabinet to agree a meanwhile use for the site and to take a longer-term vision to market. It is a key decision because the spending involved is over £1m.
