Chowringhee in Patcham wins Best Restaurant at the Curry Life Awards
The Wilmington Parade curry house shares the title with restaurants from Kent to Liverpool after the national awards in London on Sunday.
Chowringhee Indian Cuisine, on Wilmington Parade in Patcham, has been named a Best Restaurant of the Year at the Curry Life Awards 2026. The win was first reported by the Argus.
The awards are run by Curry Life magazine and are now in their 17th year. This year’s ceremony was on Sunday 4 October at the InterContinental London Park Lane. Customers vote for their favourites, then judges choose the winners. The title went to a long list of restaurants around the country this year. Chowringhee was one, and The Viceroy in Newhaven was another.
“My talented team and I are very excited to have won this award,” owner Abul Hyder told the Argus. The restaurant has been in Patcham for 26 years, the paper reported.
The menu mixes Indian cooking with Nepalese influences. Chicken Tikka Calcutta, Gurkha Chicken, Himalayan Chicken and Chicken Xacuti are among the house specials, and the kitchen roasts and grinds its own whole spices. Pudding includes homemade kulfi.
Hyder said his chef “can make any dish, even if it’s not on the menu.” And of the regulars: “All our customers know me, and I know them.”
Chowringhee is at 2 Wilmington Parade, BN1 8JJ. It opens from 5pm to 10.30pm every day, for eating in, takeaway and delivery.
