The Salt Room

Divisive seafood spot: pricey, hit-or-miss, some love it

Genuinely split opinion: some call it excellent or 'incredible' seafood worth dressing up for, while just as many say it's overrated, overpriced and 'style over substance' next to places like The Urchin or Little Fish Market. A 2025 thread describes being poorly treated by staff, others say quality has slipped since key staff left, and the view is of the i360 rather than the sea.

What locals say

The seahorse is terrible and constantly changes hands with its only success based on location. Salt Room, Embers, Copper Clam and Coal Room are all great. Our favourite is The Urchin - a shellfish pub. Really relaxed with amazing food!

…really nice restaurants so do a bit of research on Trip Advisor and book in at one for a nice meal. There are plenty of different cuisines catered for but some of my favourites are Chilli Pickle, Curry Leaf, 64 degrees, The Set, La Choza, Giggling Squid, Gingerman, Coal Shed, Salt Room, Riddle and Finns, Bus Stop, Silo, Market Restaurant. Brighton is fairly casual so you don't need to be dressed up. There are some good cocktail bars as well like the Plotting Parlour and Hotel Du Vin. There are also lots of good pubs serving nice craft beer if that's of interest. Bison Beer, Craft Beer…

Happens to most places in Brighton that start off well, after a while they turn shit, happened to the coal shed, Salt Room was still really good when I last went there but that was 2 years ago, it's to do with the team working there, it's hard to keep a consistent level of quality and service and when you lose key members of staff it's easy for those standards to slip.

I'll start by saying that Salt Room isn't a restaurant I personally enjoy. And that everyone should be treated with respect - which it doesn't seem like you were. I'm sorry that you've have to endure an upsetting situation. It is also terrible business practise However, legally they do not have to offer to a table at all. Let alone one of…
