A Seven Dials favourite for customisable bangers and mash (cod, halloumi or tofu batter) and consistently well-rated Sunday roasts with strong vegan/veggie options. It's cosy with an open fire and board games and dog-friendly most nights, though it's a Laine's pub rather than independent, and one recent comment says it's got noisier since being opened up.
- Go for
- A proper Sunday roast with veggie/vegan options

…selection. Solid outdoor seating out front with a small patio in the rear plus solid solid music venue upstairs. Not so good for the football. The Robin Hood: Smaller but great atmos. No outside seating but really solid selection of games to pick up and play at your table. Shakespeare's Head: Nice boozer with excellent selection of sausage and mash. Seriously good food. Nice outside seating out the front. The Hop Poles: Small pub with good drinks selection with a seating area out the back that is undercover. The Mucky Duck: Common all garden pub action but excellent atmos with good…
If you're on Facebook there's a Brighton Sunday Roast Club which has plenty of reviews with pictures. Otherwise, my personal favs are Signalman, Southern Belle and Shakespeare's Head. The Geese is also amazing, best gravy ever.
Red snapper is supposed to be good. They do fantastic roasts at the Good Companions and the Shakespeare's head. Burgers at The Cow are decent but pricey. Honestly, seven dials isn't the best place to go for restaurants. I'd head more towards London road for great food. Also, last week I went to The Pond for Taiwanese food and it was fucking fantastic, not to mention reasonably priced.
The West Hill was awful 10 years ago. It’s much better now, and I hope that the new managers don’t mess around with it too much. The Shakespeare’s Head is too noisy now they’ve opened it up.
