Brighton Dome overturns 1973 Bowie ban and books a Bowie show for summer 2027
Lightroom's 360° show David Bowie: You're Not Alone runs in the Corn Exchange from 16 July to 30 August 2027.
David Bowie is no longer banned from Brighton Dome. The venue has announced that David Bowie: You’re Not Alone, a 360° show made by the London venue Lightroom, will run in the Corn Exchange from 16 July to 30 August 2027.
Bowie and his band played the Dome’s Concert Hall in 1973 on the Ziggy Stardust tour. The audience reaction that night was such that the Dome’s General Manager at the time banned Bowie and the group from the venue. Brighton Dome now says “the ban has been overturned”.
The show was made in close collaboration with the David Bowie Estate. It uses performance footage, interviews and material never exhibited before, picked from thousands of hours of film in the David Bowie Archive in New York. It runs from Space Oddity through Diamond Dogs and “Heroes” to ★, with photographs, drawings, lyrics and personal notes alongside. Bowie is the only voice in it.
It plays on a loop in themed chapters, on subjects such as theatricality and songwriting. The sound designer Gareth Fry, whose credits include David Bowie Is, has reworked each track for Lightroom’s spatial audio. The show was designed by the studio 59 and directed by Mark Grimmer and Tom Wexler. At Lightroom in King’s Cross, one full show lasts about an hour.
There will be British Sign Language interpreted showings on Wednesday 21 July, Sunday 25 July, Thursday 29 July, Sunday 8 August, Thursday 12 August, Tuesday 17 August, Sunday 22 August and Thursday 26 August. Relaxed showings are on 28 July, 4 August, 13 August and 19 August, for slots up to and including 12.30pm.
