Widely rated Brighton's best fish and chips: cheap, fresh and consistently decent, repeatedly favoured over rivals like Wolfies (accused of watery curry sauce and small portions) and Bankers. One fan notes they cook fresh to order rather than pre-frying, so it can take a bit longer.

What locals say

Fillets on Lewes Road. Not fancy but everything is decent and it's cheap. Wolfies and Bankers are both massively overrated. Wolfies in particular do a proper shite curry sauce, like water with bits floating in it, and small portions.

It's a while since I've ordered from there, but I'd like to put in a good word for Fillets on Lewes Road. Friendly, generous portions, and they don't seem to pre-fry a lot of fish and leave it hanging around. That means you mostly have to wait for them to cook it fresh, of course, but I prefer it that way around!

Fillets hands-down. I drive 20mins just for this. Not greasy and heavy at all. Great everytime.
