A Blackrock group restaurant (alongside Coal Shed, Salt Room and Tutto) on Middle Street, repeatedly named among Brighton's best for small plates, tasting menus and cocktails, and a go-to for romantic dinners and birthdays. Several Redditors praise the service and a well-priced sample menu, though tables are hard to get at short notice. Not everyone agrees though - one diner found the food 'meh' for the price and said the cocktails were better suited to a bar.

What locals say

Bincho yakitori does incredible Japanese tapas dishes and is, in my opinion, the best food in brighton for the price - not too expensive but delicious. Cin cin is great for very decent Italian. Other places worth checking out are Giggling Squid for Thai and Burnt Orange for amazing cocktails and tasty dishes.

Flinthouse is really good, they do a well priced taster menu with optional wine pairing. Burnt Orange also do a well priced sample menu which is really tasty food and they have a deal on in January giving you a tenner off your bill…

If you’re willing to venture out towards Hove and you’re looking for a night out of food then you won’t find better than Palmito and Fourth & Church. In town, Burnt Orange, 64 Degrees are amongst my faves. The Golden Pineapple always has an interesting food concession on the go as well.

Loin and Lobster is a multi floored dimly lit backstreet tavern with its own roof terrace. Would recommend! Burnt orange is OK but honestly not the greatest anymore now the hype is over. The best food is at Plateau which is an organic wine bar with small plate food- super good quality and very reasonably priced.
